A Taste of Marseille

Marseille's historic Old Port dates to 600 BC when it was used by the Greeks, and over time has led to an influx of immigrants from many countries, including North Africa, Armenia, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Russia, and more. Along with these new customs and traditions came trade, and have heavily influenced Marseille's food culture.

Marseille is one of the most popular French destinations, not only because of its sunny weather but also because of its warm and friendly population, who will welcome you to their culture through food. The cuisine of this region is influenced not only by Mediterranean tradition but also by the many cultures that have followed one another over time. Marseille is in fact, a crossroads of many cultures, and this educational and delicious food tour will reflect the many characteristics you will soon discover as you try dishes not only French but from all over the world as you learn about the customs of the people of Marseille.

Food is always one of the best ways to learn about a new culture and place. During this tour, you will taste some of the city's specialties selected for you by locals, walk in some of the most beautiful areas of Marseille, including the Old Port, Le Panier, and Noailles districts, and learn some fun facts. Your walking tour group is kept to no more than 12 guests in total, making for a very intimate and personal experience with your local, knowledgeable guide.

This walking tour will afford you possible tastings that may include cheese, such as a delicious camembert roasted with pastis, the local anis liquor from Marseille. You will also enjoy local seafood dishes, such as mussels or squids, of course paired with a glass of regional wine, and other staples of Marseille street food, like the iconic pizza "moitie moitie" or panisses with Aioli sauce.

To round out your food experience, now it's time for Oriental sweets, and crunchy and melting pastries to enjoy without admission of guilt! Discover the beautiful blue-tiled shop where you will be transported to Tunisia through Loukoums and Makeout. Be provided a delicious cup of tea as a beautiful accompaniment.

Don't miss out on this wonderful opportunity to learn about this area of France through history and food as you walk in the footsteps of an ancient time.
